- 1(1) 2The Florida Institute of Politics is established at the Florida State University within the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy. The purpose of the institute is to provide the southeastern region of the United States with a world class, bipartisan, nationally renowned institute of politics.48(2) 49The goals of the institute are to:56(a) 57Motivate students throughout the Florida State University to become aware of the significance of government and civic engagement at all levels and politics in general.82(b) 83Provide students with an opportunity to be politically active and civically engaged.95(c) 96Nurture a greater awareness 1002101of and passion for public service and politics.109(d) 110Plan and host forums to allow students and guests to hear from and interact with experts from government, politics, policy, and journalism on a frequent basis.136(e) 137Become a national and state resource on polling information and survey methodology.149(f) 150Provide fellowships and internship opportunities to students in government, nonprofit organizations, and community organizations.164(g) 165Provide training sessions for newly elected state and local public officials.176(h) 177Organize and sponsor conferences, symposia, and workshops throughout this state to educate and inform citizens, elected officials, and appointed policymakers regarding effective policymaking techniques and processes.203(i) 204Create and promote research and awareness regarding politics, citizen involvement, and public service.217(j) 218Collaborate with related policy institutes and research activities at the Florida State University and other institutions of higher education to motivate, increase, and sustain citizen involvement in public affairs.

A. Section 9, ch. 2020-114, created s. 1004.6499 “[i]n order to implement Specific Appropriation 150 of the 2020-2021 General Appropriations Act.”
B. Section 110, ch. 2020-114, provides that “[i]f any other act passed during the 2020 Regular Session of the Legislature contains a provision that is substantively the same as a provision in this act, but that removes or is otherwise not subject to the future repeal applied to such provision by this act, the Legislature intends that the provision in the other act takes precedence and continues to operate, notwithstanding the future repeal provided by this act.” Section 7, ch. 2020-117, created s. 1004.6499 using language substantively the same as s. 9, ch. 2020-114, and did not include a repeal provision.
