  SECTION 601.89. Citrus fruit; when damaged by freezing.

  • 1(1) 2Citrus fruit shall be deemed “seriously” damaged by freezing when such freezing causes:
    15(a) 16Marked dryness to extend into the segments of oranges and grapefruit more than 29130/312 32inch at the stem end; or into segments of mandarin or hybrid varieties more than 47148/494 50inch at the stem end; or more than an equivalent amount by volume of dryness to occur in any other portions of the fruit.
    74(b) 75Internal freeze-related injury, as defined in subsection (3), when such condition or combination of conditions is determined to affect the fruit to a degree equal in seriousness to that described in paragraph (a).
    108(2) 109Citrus fruit shall be deemed “damaged” by freezing when such freezing causes:
    121(a) 122Marked dryness to extend into the segments of oranges and grapefruit more than 1351136/1374 138inch but less than 1421143/1442 145inch at the stem end; or into segments of mandarin or hybrid varieties more than 1601161/1628 163inch but less than 1671168/1694 170inch at the stem end; or more than an equivalent amount by volume of dryness to occur in any portions of the fruit.
    193(b) 194Internal freeze-related injury, as defined by subsection (3), when such condition or combination of conditions is determined to affect the fruit to a degree equal in seriousness to that described in paragraph (a).
    227(3) 228Internal freeze-related injury to citrus fruit, caused by freezing, shall consist of any of the following:
    244(a) 245Wet cores or wet segment walls;
    251(b) 252Water soaking;
    254(c) 255Juice cell breakdown;
    258(d) 259Mushy condition;
    261(e) 262Honeycomb or open spaces in pulp; or
    269(f) 270Other evidence of internal breakdown, decay, or moldy condition.
