  SECTION 55.6055. Foreign defamation judgment.

  • 1(1) 2For the purposes of rendering declaratory relief with respect to a person’s liability for a foreign defamation judgment and determining whether the foreign defamation judgment should be deemed nonrecognizable under s. 3355.605, 34the courts of this state have personal jurisdiction over any person who obtains a judgment in a defamation proceeding outside the United States against any person who:
    61(a) 62Is a resident of this state;
    68(b) 69Is a person or entity amenable to the jurisdiction of this state;
    81(c) 82Has assets in this state; or
    88(d) 89May have to take action in this state to comply with the judgment.
    102(2) 103This section applies to judgments rendered in defamation proceedings outside the United States before, on, or after July 1, 2009.
