  SECTION 383.311. Education and orientation for birth center clients and their families.

  • 1(1) 2The clients and their families shall be fully informed of the policies and procedures of the birth center, including, but not limited to, policies and procedures on:
    29(a) 30The selection of clients.
    34(b) 35The expectation of self-help and family/client relationships.
    42(c) 43The qualifications of the clinical staff.
    49(d) 50The transfer to secondary or tertiary care.
    57(e) 58The philosophy of childbirth care and the scope of services.
    68(f) 69The customary length of stay after delivery.
    76(2) 77The clients shall be prepared for childbirth and childbearing by education in:
    89(a) 90The course of pregnancy and normal changes occurring during pregnancy.
    100(b) 101The need for prenatal care.
    106(c) 107Nutrition, including encouragement of breastfeeding.
    112(d) 113The effects of smoking and substance abuse.
    120(e) 121Labor and delivery.
    124(f) 125The care of the newborn to include safe sleep practices and the possible causes of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death.
